For me, good things come in threes……….
And yet again, three things that made my week and will for certain go on to make my weekend.
A web series – The Ba***ds of Bollywood.
This is such a fun ride. I must start with the mockery that is made of the entire Sameer Wankhede incident. They found an actor who closely resembles the real-life officer; it is hilarious. It is just good fun, and should be taken in that spirit, forget the cries of nepotism; I know of generations who practice the same profession repeatedly, so let us give this one a rest, shall we? It has all the ingredients of a bhel puri, and they are used well. So do not watch this one expecting caviar. We have seen Raghav Juyal and Lakshya Lalwani slug it out in Kill and show very good chemistry, so also in this one. One brilliant scene is the one in which the protagonist scares the heebie-jeebies out of a critic, who is totally modeled on Rajeev Masand. Too much fun! And such swagger! And ah Bobby Deol, the phoenix – what an amazing resurgence by this man. I am loving Bobby 2.0!
Manish Chaudhari is, as usual, very good and can be watched on a loop. His character is called Sodawallah, and he has an imprint of it on some random hills, which had me doubling up.
In the best satirical casting I have seen in ages is Emraan Hashmi as an intimacy director, the meta references are very good, and most of the cameos work, but for the one with Salman Khan, which was a total damp squib!
P.S – A disclaimer, I am only on episode -4, and it slows down here.
P. P. S - Gafoor needs his own spin-off!
A Movie—Well, this had to be Saiyaara this week, because the Materialist was just too disappointing. This one is a tearjerker, and I am sure you all know all that there is to know about it, but it is immersive, and I would recommend one watch at least, be it interrupted by loo breaks or food breaks or just any kind of break. Once I was actually watching it, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the screen!
Both of the above are on Netflix.
A book- I was late to join the Robert Galbraith party, but now that I am here, I know that the world only exists so that J. K. Rowling could write mystery books masquerading as R. G. I am on my second one now, and everything is an interruption till I can read again.
I hope this sets you up for your weekend!
Ciao!
