I was weeping buckets watching the last episode of this season of KBC. I didn't even understand why I was crying... Maybe coz I wouldn't get to see Amitji anymore or maybe coz I wouldn't know what to do with my evening time!
I really didn't understand what it was that kept me glued to the TV screen for an hour and a half till I heard the words of Bhabhi's wise Father( Mr.N.C.Kapoor)...... He said and I write here in hindi for impact... "Garibi ki majboori hum kya samjhenge?"
That is so true we have learned over the years to appreciate what we have and to be grateful for it but we don't have it in us to truly understand the desperation of poverty.
We don't understand the desperation of the maid who tries too steal a couple of lemons!
We don't understand the desperation of the maid when she sneaks in extra sugar into her cup of tea!
We don't understand the desperation of the driver who takes ten rupees out of the petty cash to have a cup of tea!
WE DON'T GET POVERTY!
It is beyond us to comprehend how much Anil Kumar's life changed when he won 1crore on the show.
He hopes to use it to build a huge house for his family comprising of 15 adults and 6 children. And we don't stop to analyze that in Pune even with 1 crore that would be impossible!
Sushil Kumar won 5 crores and feels that his life and his family's life is now secure. Would we ever feel that way about our family?
Mrs. Wankede who won Rs.50 lacs feels safe and secure now! She put it in very simple terms that this money will enable her to break the cycle of poverty that has hounded her family for generations.
What amount of money would make us feel that way?
Are you all making a calculation in your heads?
Good then maybe you are one step closer to understanding the desperation of poverty!
Never again will I splurge for a meal at a fancy restaurant without thinking that this money will probably be a month's ration allowance for a Poor Family.
Never again will I buy delicacies from a fancy grocery store without realizing that the parking money alone would buy a kilo of sugar...........
I shall be grateful for all I have.
I shall be thankful for all I have.
BUT
I WILL UNDERSTAND THE "DESPERATION OF POVERTY"
