Hasee toh Phasee.....
Isn't it beautiful when a movie works chiefly because of performances? Well this is one of them! The storyline is nothing great but whoa! watch out for Parineeti. She just holds your attention and doesn't let go! Siddharth is a hunk but this movie isn't his. He shall have to look around for another release to prove his mettle,,,,
I am rather sure that he will do a great job, but this one is Parineeti's all the way!
If you haven't seen this movie already be aware that there are spoilers ahead!
Meeta (Parineeti) is a dysfunctional genius who loves her father to bits and cares only for her scientific endeavors. Nikhil on the other hand is a pro-commitment kinda guy who shall do absolutely anything to appease his fiancee.
The catatonic Meeta is funny in part but mostly she simply tugs at your heart with her simplicity and compartmentalized outlook to life. I had moist eyes at least thrice during the movie. It's simply amazing the way her character is layered. She could have just taken funny and run with it but she adds layers and nuances which are so clever and intriguing. A classic example of this is when she takes on Nikhil's father. That sequence is simply hilarious and at the same time so sad, because Meeta is being accused of something that she hasn't done. Her portrayal of the catatonic genius is so perfect, not at all over the top. Just the right balance of sweet and salty and some sour too!
Vinil Matthews like the other directors of today is not in the least bit afraid to burden his lead actress with tough scenes and when they are vindicated by fine actresses like Parineeti it just allows other directors to do so too.
My fave scene was the wada-pav one. Also fun is the rap somg sung by Meeta's admirer.
A striking similarity of today's movies is how well the character artistes play their roles. Deserving a mention here are both the fathers- Mohan Joshi and Sharat Saxena. Neena Kulkarni is wasted.Adah Sharma is competent. Anil Mange as Meeta's admirer is funny.
I would certainly watch this once....
I hope you did too....
