PIKU
What a delight! What a treat! I had completely forgotten
what it was to have a stitch in one's side from laughing.... well i was
reminded by this movie and how.
First and foremost the dialogue writer deserves a standing
ovation! Oh My God! Each bit of repartee was priceless and had me holding my
sides from laughing! The director is simply amazing. Soojit Sircar had us
rolling in the aisles even with Vicky Donor, but this one is so good! And it is
joining my list of often watched- lift me from the dumps movies.... Ala
Chuke Chupke, Andaaz Apna Apna, Angoor, Golmaal- the ori ginal to
name a few! Folks if you know any of the above mentioned, you shall know what
to expect from Piku.
Donot miss this one and certainly donot miss the beginning
titles... it features a superb sitar composition.
Deepika Padukone plays a loving daughter, whose life
revolves around her Dad and her Dad is more than willing to keep her occupied.
Other than this there is no perceptible storyline. It's really just a string of
events, but how they keep us glued. I was so upset when there was a break for
intermission.
Amitabh
Bachchan finally shows us again why he is a superstar, submitting
himself to the role completely. Irrfan is a worthy heir to Amol Palekar and the
chemistry between all of them is so good. Moushmi Chatterjee fits her miniscule
part perfectly.
The director has at no point tried to under-estimate the intelligence of the audience, and so there are no unnecessary explanations regarding each character's nature! They are what they are and the film doesn't seek refuge in over the top flashback sequences.

You are going to enjoy this one! Go for it!
I saw it with the perfect companion Devinder Aggarwal but
we did missAshutosh Aggarwal specially
since the central theme of the movie is what he loves talking about!
See you soon with Bombay Velvet next week! That is if I
don't end up watching Piku again.
Ciao!
Ciao!
P.S Anyone who watches the movie could you please tell me if
you found it odd too that Deepika and her Cousin just don't interact in the
movie?
