Pink

Wow..... Just wow...
Each review about this movie is justified. This movie is an A plus on every level. The agony of the rich and powerful being blatant in their abuse of the law; the sheer bias that exists against independent women; and even  the utter chauvinism that women are subjected to.. Leave all this aside. All this is cause for loads of debate. So just leave all that aside. See this movie purely for it's cinematic value.

The storyline is pure and never strays from it's path. The supporting cast is terrific. Vinod Nagpal where were you? We have missed you.

A few faces from Piku are there as well.

The direction is spectacular...
No other word comes to mind. This a movie of international calibre and I hope it gets it's due.

All the 3 girls shine in their roles. They are perfect. There are a few missteps from Taapsee Pannu, but that's just me being a nitpicker. The girl who plays Falak is a brilliant actor.

Also the actor playing the vile friend gives off evil vibes and you just want to slap him. So good acting...

Angad Singh Bedi, a complete non-actor inspires so much disgust and loathing that it is only after several hours that I am realising what a good job he did. I don't know if he will ever get another meaty role like this, but he is superb in this role. It is commendable that he is able to hold his own whilst facing off against an actor of Mr. Bachchan's calibre.

I was so upset about Wazir and Teen that I had almost given up on seeing Mr. Bachchan in a good movie. Well this is redemption and how!

Rapier sharp dialogue ; total domination of each scene and that amazing baritone... Ahhhhhh.... He is the best and he has just given us the movie of the year.

His performance captures the essence of the movie and I am glad that we still get see him in movies like this that do home justice.

See this one...

Thappad

Thappad The prelude to the aria that is Thappad, is a dizzying runabout of a homemaker's humdrum daily chores. It serves to establish the roles each character has established for themselves. The husband played by newbie, Pavail Gulati is wonderfully self-obsessed and completely oblivious to anything but his own needs. The wife played by Tapsee Pannu ( as if we didn't know! Ha ha!) is on the other end of the spectrum. She is hyper aware of the needs of all those around her and revels in being needed and being able to be of service. The nuances that are written into the script are sheer brilliance. Consider the opening montage introducing the main characters to us. The wife being driven about, the girlfriend being received with love and finally a super successful lawyer finding freedom in hanging out a car window. The conversation that ensues between all of them, sketches skillfully the back stories of the lot of them. The movie is far from being a chest beating comment...

Monica, O My Darling

Straight off the bat, let me tell you that I went into this movie cold. I just saw the trailer and put it on my watch list. I was totally enamored with the cast and the premise. I knew I was going to watch this one, so I didn't delve into the promotional shenanigans.  So if you are of the same bent of mind, stop reading and start watching.  And on your behalf, I did Google Ankola, it is a town in Karnataka and is not to be confused with Akola in Maharashtra. Ha ! Ha! Netflix has been delighting us with gems like Raat Akeli thi, Haseen dilruba and Bulbul. Add this one to that list and think Gehraiyaan. I need not stress on the proficient star cast. They are masters of their craft. Starting with the sneaky Rajkummar Rao, the sultry Huma Quereshi and the wily Radhika Apte, the ensemble includes the creepy Sukant Goel, the beleaguered Zayn Marie and many others. For me Sikandar Kher was a standout. A shoutout to his intensity and his baritone.  The dialogues are spot on and t...
