Dear Pain

Dear Pain,
You have been my companion for more than 10 days now,
You have been searing at times,
And dull at others.
At times you have been a niggle
And at times a full fledged maelstrom inside of me.

Whatever you have been,
You have never been absent.
You have made your presence felt with each step that I took.

You have been like a possessive lover,
Who wants complete compliance, but wants to give nothing away.
You haven't been gentle,
You have been all consuming,
It's time for us to break up.

I know you are here for a reason,
Had it not been for you, I wouldn't even know that there was anything wrong with me,
But I'd like you to be more of a passing acquaintance and less a permanent resident,
Please go now that you have done your job.

I know that I won't live out my life without running into you,
But, please, please, please make your visits shorter,
Even if you can't reduce the frequency of your visits,
At least reduce the intensity.

Let me heal,
Before you make your next visit,
Let me breathe in deeply,
And not feel your presence,

The husband played by newbie, Pavail Gulati is wonderfully self-obsessed and completely oblivious to anything but his own needs. The wife played by Tapsee Pannu ( as if we didn't know! Ha ha!) is on the other end of the spectrum. She is hyper aware of the needs of all those around her and revels in being needed and being able to be of service. The nuances that are written into the script are sheer brilliance. Consider the opening montage introducing the main characters to us. The wife being driven about, the girlfriend being received with love and finally a super successful lawyer finding freedom in hanging out a car window. Monica, O My Darling

Straight off the bat, let me tell you that I went into this movie cold. I just saw the trailer and put it on my watch list. I was totally enamored with the cast and the premise. I knew I was going to watch this one, so I didn't delve into the promotional shenanigans.  So if you are of the same bent of mind, stop reading and start watching.  And on your behalf, I did Google Ankola, it is a town in Karnataka and is not to be confused with Akola in Maharashtra. Ha ! Ha! Netflix has been delighting us with gems like Raat Akeli thi, Haseen dilruba and Bulbul. Add this one to that list and think Gehraiyaan. I need not stress on the proficient star cast. They are masters of their craft. Starting with the sneaky Rajkummar Rao, the sultry Huma Quereshi and the wily Radhika Apte, the ensemble includes the creepy Sukant Goel, the beleaguered Zayn Marie and many others.
