Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare

I had somewhat, though not wholeheartedly liked Alankrita Shrivastava’s previous movie – Lipstick Under my Burkha. But I was sorely disappointed in this venture of hers. In this one it seems as if she had a checklist at the ready, and was hellbent on ticking off one by one, all the elements that she had decided had to populate the screen with in Dolly-Kitty.

So, Feminism – done

Sexual Freedom – done

Equality for Women – done

Being cheated on – done

So, on and so forth, till I was cringing within myself and had a feeling of been there and done that!

If you aren’t of the mind to stomach the pseudo-liberalism, let this one go.

The poor writing got the better of even Konkona Sen Sharma, so that is saying a lot. Bhumi Pednekar seems to have been saddled for posterity with that faux accent, she has put in almost every movie I have seen her in.

Total waste of talent.

Monica, O My Darling

Straight off the bat, let me tell you that I went into this movie cold. I just saw the trailer and put it on my watch list. I was totally enamored with the cast and the premise. I knew I was going to watch this one, so I didn't delve into the promotional shenanigans.  So if you are of the same bent of mind, stop reading and start watching.  And on your behalf, I did Google Ankola, it is a town in Karnataka and is not to be confused with Akola in Maharashtra. Ha ! Ha! Netflix has been delighting us with gems like Raat Akeli thi, Haseen dilruba and Bulbul. Add this one to that list and think Gehraiyaan. I need not stress on the proficient star cast. They are masters of their craft. Starting with the sneaky Rajkummar Rao, the sultry Huma Quereshi and the wily Radhika Apte, the ensemble includes the creepy Sukant Goel, the beleaguered Zayn Marie and many others. For me Sikandar Kher was a standout. A shoutout to his intensity and his baritone.  The dialogues are spot on and t...

Silent Bystanders. ....

At times one sees people behaving in the most despicable way and one itches to say something. I witnessed such a wrong being perpetrated today and to my utter shame I just stood by and then later mutely walked away. Yes, there were others present and yes someone else could have said something. But none of us did. And neither did I. Exactly what is it that held me back? Maybe the thought that this wasn't my fight or the fact that I wanted to have no rep ercussions coming my way...... Whatever....... I didn't take a stand and I could have..... It's a shame I shall cart around for a while.... I wish I could turn back time, but I can't and knowing that so well today could possibly make me more stronger ahead.... Maybe......
